Wisconsin Leads in Energy Efficiency

Businesses and residents in Wisconsin are committed to energy efficiency. This is evident in state's #5 national ranking for energy efficiency accomplishments, according to a recent report by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.

Wisconsin's ranking is based primarily on an analysis of the Focus on Energy program, which provides information, resources and financial incentives to help businesses and residents manage energy costs and protect the environment. Businesses, farms and residents have saved more than $239 million in annual energy costs through Focus on Energy since 2001. These savings are equivalent to:

"The progress Focus on Energy is making has helped to establish Wisconsin as a leader in energy efficiency," said Eric Callisto, Chairperson of the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. "We are ranked fifth in the country for our energy efficiency efforts. This is a major accomplishment, something of which we can all be proud."

Business Accomplishments

Focus on Energy has helped businesses in the state cut electric consumption by more than 1 billion kilowatt-hours and natural gas consumption by more than 68 million therms. This translates to almost $151 million in energy cost savings each year.
