Automated Meter Reading Technology

Gas Choice uses a telephone-based meter reading system to monitor your natural gas consumption. This new, automated technology requires that a telephone wire run from your telephone system to your gas meter on the exterior of your building. This automated meter reading system will share your existing phone line, but it won't be intrusive. If someone at your place of business is using the phone, the metering system won't interfere. If a meter reading is in progress and someone in your building picks up a telephone receiver, the metering system will stop immediately and restore a dial tone for the caller.

You will need to arrange for installation of the telephone wire to the location of your meter, leaving approximately 24 inches of wire available on the exterior of the building. WPS will then use this length of wire to attach the phone line to the meter. Please note that WPS is unable to install the automated meter reading system until the telephone line is installed.

Daily meter readings will take place between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. You will not incur any local or long-distance telephone charges for calls made by the meter reading system. Your natural gas readings for the business day will be posted on Energy Information the following morning.
