Service & Gas Choice

Will my service change with an alternate gas supplier?
Yes, your service will change. Some things will remain the same. For example, WPS will still be responsible for installing, operating and maintaining the local gas distribution system. We'll still respond to any gas odor, gas fire or other gas emergency. And we'll continue to be responsible for reading your gas meter, calculating WPS charges for your gas bill, and responding to credit concerns. Your new gas supplier, however, will be responsible for procuring your gas supplies, arranging to transport that gas over interstate pipelines, coordinating gas storage, and delivering the gas to WPS as you need it.

Who should I call if I'm participating in Gas Choice and discover a gas leak?
For any problems with your natural gas service, or to report a gas odor, you should always call WPS at 800-450-7260 – even if you've chosen another company for your natural gas supply.

Will alternate suppliers offer additional services, besides gas supply?
Each alternate supplier's offer could be different. Some may simply want to sell you natural gas. Full-service providers may offer additional services and incentives to their customers. It's important to be an informed gas consumer. Ask questions. Be knowledgeable about your choices. For example, don't turn down a full-service supplier simply because that supplier offers more services than you expected or desire at the time. The full-service offer may turn out to be your lowest-cost alternative.

How will WPS know that the natural gas my supplier buys for my company has been delivered to my company?
Based on your consumption history, your natural gas supplier will project how much gas your company is expected to use each day. Your supplier will then buy the gas and deliver it to WPS's local system, according to state and federal regulations. The gas that is delivered for you will be intermingled with gas brought into the system by WPS and other suppliers. So there will be no difference in the quality of the gas delivered to your company as compared to the gas delivered to you now. At the end of each day, we will reconcile how much gas was delivered for your company versus how much gas usage your meter recorded.

Will my company ever go without gas? What if the supplier we choose doesn't supply enough gas?
WPS will do everything possible to maintain gas supply to your company even if your supplier fails to deliver gas supplies on your behalf. In the rare event that a shortage of natural gas supply threatens to shut down the local distribution system, WPS may need to "valve-off" or shut off gas supply to customers whose suppliers are not delivering adequate supplies. This would protect as many gas consumers as possible. In any situation where your supplier fails to deliver enough gas for your company, your company may be subject to high fees and/or penalties. Responsibility for paying these types of fees and penalties needs to be negotiated between you and your gas supplier.
