Community Events

WPS supports so many events in the communities we serve — we can't list them all. Here are just a few examples.

WPS Kids' Power Run
The WPS Kids' Power Run is a 1/2-mile run that begins and ends at our office in downtown Green Bay. The run is for children 10 and under. Families can also enjoy music, food, inflatable fun and a clown.
WPS Garden of Lights
WPS and the Green Bay Botanical Garden host a holiday favorite. Visitors to the garden can walk or take a horse-drawn carriage and be dazzled by more than 200,000 lights crafted into flowers, butterflies and other botanical themes. The WPS Garden of Lights runs from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas.
Oshkosh Celebration of Lights
WPS also sponsors the Celebration of Lights — a spectacular holiday event at Menominee Park in Oshkosh. The event draws more than 11,000 vehicles and continues to grow! Both events feature LED lighting displays and information on how to conserve energy.
Kayak/Canoe Events
WPS is a season sponsor for Wausau Kayak/Canoe Corporation events. The Wausau Kayak/Canoe Corporation is an educational resource for whitewater kayak and canoe enthusiasts. The group provides premier venues for paddle sports in local communities; whitewater training for everyone; and local, national and international competition at Wausau Whitewater Park.

Waterfest
Waterfest is a summer concert series running every Thursday night in the summer. Depending on the weather and the artists strength of appeal anywhere from 2,500 to 7,500 visitors may be in attendance for any given evening. The Oshkosh downtown eateries and clubs bustle before and after the event so come early, stay late, or both! Music generally starts when the gates open and never runs past 11:00 PM. Waterfest beats summer re-runs, keeps us outside and allows us home in time for the nightly news.

Location: Leach Amphitheater, Riverside Park, Downtown Oshkosh
Cost: $6.00 before 6:00pm, $10.00 before 7:00pm and $15.00 after 7:00pm

Community Clean Up at Monk Gardens
WPS and Coca-Cola are sponsoring a "Community Clean Up" day at the Robert W. Monk Gardens on Thursday, Sept. 16 (2:00 – 5:00 p.m.).

We are looking to have a good old fashioned raking, planting and hauling party! Bring your shovels, hoes, mowers and trailers to help spruce up the gardens. Contact the Friends of Monk Gardens for specific equipment needs.

Some of the tasks include:

  • Removal of Russian Olive
  • Remove some hidden wooden steps
  • Repair the Bridge Rails
  • Mowing the property
  • Planting – they have the plants, just need the hands!
  • Haul Bushes
  • Cutting down a few broken trees

The Monk Gardens are Northern Wisconsin's first public botanical gardens. Designed to create a place of beauty for all, the Gardens will evolve over time, revealing new and lush gardens designed to excite all the senses while simultaneously providing a place where all can grow their minds and bodies surrounded by the beauty of nature. The twenty plus acre property was generously donated by Robert W. Monk, III, a long time resident of Wausau, Wisconsin. Mr. Monk's dream to create a public garden for the residents of Wisconsin and all who visit our region has been adopted by countless members of the community, making the Gardens a true work of community involvement. Hope to see you there!!!
