LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
What is LEED?
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) encompasses five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Our goal is to achieve a Gold Level of LEED certification.
What will be incorporated into our LEED building design?
- Integrated design approach considering building shell, lighting, and mechanical systems, providing WPS with exceptional comfort and energy cost savings.
- High performance lighting system with some cutting-edge technologies such as LED fixtures.
- Carpet and other products manufactured with a high percentage of recycled content.
- A waste management plan is anticipated to recycle over 75% of all construction waste from the site, greatly reducing the amount of materials brought to landfills.
- High clerestory windows in interior office space, the warehouse, and service areas will allow for day-lighting, decreasing the amount of energy used for lights.
- In-floor heating in garage and service areas.
- Motion sensors for lighting and HVAC will save energy use when spaces are unoccupied.
- High level of water savings through features which include waterless urinals and dual-flush toilets.
- Native vegetation on site, including prairie grasses, will help conserve water, reduce maintenance, and improve the surrounding environment.
LEED Background
LEED started in 2000, providing guidelines as put together by the US Green Build Council to help certify projects to ensure green and sustainable building methods. The guidelines encompass five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selection and indoor air quality.
Location
The building will sit on 20 acres along the Highway 17 by-pass on Navajo Street.
Benefits of LEED
Cost less to operate and maintain, energy and water efficient, contributes to the health and productivity of those who work in it.
