WPS-School Partnerships
Teaching students about energy – and the math and science behind energy – is a big part of what WPS does in local schools. But there's more. We know that being involved with students and teachers energizes our own employees and the communities we serve.
- Adopt-A-Classroom
WPS has been working with Tank Elementary School in Green Bay, WI, since 1991, volunteering in the classroom. Each year, WPS employees hold a bake sale to raise money for a student field trip. Employees also chaperone on school field trips, tutor students in the classroom, have lunch with the kids, and share their career experiences. - Adopt-A-School
WPS has partnered with Franklin Middle School in Green Bay, WI, and Emmeline Cook Elementary in Oshkosh, WI, for decades. Our goal is to give students a better understanding of the world of work, recognize the students' academic progress and support the parent-teacher-student relationship. We lead activities including job shadowing and classroom presentations such as Why Math Is Important, The Economics of Staying in School and a Festival of Fine Arts. - Business World®
Wisconsin Public Service Foundation sponsors Business World, a program demonstrating the value of business and economics education to students and teachers across Wisconsin. This unique program provides an appreciation for the free enterprise system we live in. - Innovative Educator Grants
Wisconsin Public Service Foundation awards grants to educators for innovative teaching programs and projects in their schools. The program, in its third year, is for junior high, middle and high school educators in the areas of science, math and technology. Educators are invited to apply for grants, up to $1,000 each. - Junior Achievement
Junior Achievement (JA) reaches more than 4 million K-12 students in the U.S. each year. JA volunteers teach respect, integrity and excellence, and build a bridge between schools and businesses. The hands-on experiences they lead bring the real world of business to students in the schools. WPS has sponsored Junior Achievement since 1980, with employees volunteering their time in many ways. WPS partners with local businesses and educational institutions in programs like Partners in Education. Partners in Education brings all of these organizations together for talk about which academic, technical and life skills Wisconsin's leaders view as important skills for the future. For more information, contact your local WPS Community Relations Leader. - Scholarships
Wisconsin Public Service Foundation offers many college and technical school scholarships to high school seniors, continuing college students, returning adults and minority and female students in the WPS service area. - Trees for Tomorrow
Trees for Tomorrow is a natural resources specialty school in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Each year, WPS gives scholarships to 135 high school students and 8 teachers so they can attend workshops at Trees for Tomorrow. They get hands-on experience in wildlife management, reforestation and air, water and land management. In total, more than 6,000 students and teachers enjoy Trees for Tomorrow programs annually. WPS has supported this valuable educational resource since 1949. - SolarWise® for Schools
SolarWise for Schools is a unique program to WPS, providing schools with solar curriculum materials and solar-electric systems that help teach and provide school buildings with power. Each year, participating schools enter the annual Solar Olympics event, where students put their solar smarts to work in a high-spirited and highly educational competition.
