Solar Olympics
Solar Olympics is a one-day renewable energy event that culminates the school year for participating SolarWise schools. This program gives high school students hands-on experience with renewable energy. Students prepare solar projects in categories that draw on various disciplines, including science, mathematics, English, communications, art and business. Students are challenged to use their capabilities in design, construction, oral presentation, written communication, and artistic expression. Solar Olympics also teaches project management skills and team work.
In Solar Olympics, student teams (with up to 10 members each), led by a teacher/coach, compete in twelve "events" related to solar energy. This year's events are:
- Solar Cooker
- Solar Water Heater
- Solar Car
- Solar Essay
- Solar Sculpture
- Solar Jeopardy Game
- Solar T-Shirt Design
- Solar Building Design
- Solar Marketing Campaign
- Solar Photography
- Community Outreach Presentation
- Solar Art Challenge
The 14th Annual Solar Olympics were held on May 11 at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh.
