Converting to Natural Gas
Switching to natural gas is easy. It may require a small investment on your part, but it
will quickly be recovered through the savings you'll see month after month.
Following are a few of the steps you may experience when you request to connect natural
gas to your home:
- Service Line Installation - Public Service provides a portion of the service
line — the gas pipeline that runs between the gas main and the gas meter. If additional portions of service line are needed, you will be responsible
for the charge. Contact Public Service to discuss your options and costs. Call
800-242-9772 for residential service or
877-444-0888 for business service.
- Excess Flow Valve - Public Service installs an Excess Flow Valve (EFV) on all
new residential gas service lines. This valve is designed to limit the flow of natural
gas automatically if a service line is severed, potentially reducing personal and/or
property damage caused by the severing of a gas service line.
- Re-piping, correcting safety hazards and converting appliances to natural gas
- Public Service is very safety and code conscious. We encourage you to select a
contractor who follows all code requirements when converting to natural gas.
- Heating Equipment Estimates - Public Service suggests getting two or three
furnace estimates when considering the replacement of your furnace.
