Customer-Owned (Parallel) Generation - Michigan
The following information will guide you through the steps and requirements
necessary to interconnect a parallel system to the WPS electric
distribution system.

For Systems 20kW or Less
- Start the Interconnection Process
Contact Kevin Pitts at Wisconsin Public Service to review your project:
Phone: 920-433-4964
E-mail: klpitts@wisconsinpublicservice.com
- Review and Understand the Rates, Rules and Requirements
- Complete Interconnection Application
Complete and submit the Michigan
Generator Interconnection Application, with the applicable review fee,
to:
Attn: Kevin Pitts
Wisconsin Public Service
P.O. Box 19007
Green Bay, WI 54307-9007
- Application Review
Your application will be reviewed by WPS to determine if it contains
all of the information required to begin the interconnection process. You will
then be notified by WPS regarding the status of your application.
If the application is incomplete, additional information will be requested.
- Determine if Distribution Study is Needed
After your application is considered complete, WPS will determine if
a distribution study is needed. This study is to assess the level of impact your
system will have once connected to our grid.
If the study is required, you will be notified with the cost of that study. Upon
written authorization to proceed, and payment of the applicable fee, we will
complete the distribution study.
- Discuss Distribution Study and Review Interconnection Options &
Costs
Once the study is complete, WPS will contact you to discuss all of the
options available — along with their associated costs — and the project
timeline for the interconnection of your parallel generation system.
- Installation of parallel generation and Distribution System Upgrades
You will need to install your generating equipment within a mutually agreed upon
timeframe. After receipt of payment for the agreed-upon interconnection costs, we
will perform all work needed to upgrade our distribution system to accommodate
your parallel generation system.
- System Testing
When the installation of your system is complete, WPS must be notified
and given the opportunity to witness or verify the system testing. This could
include:
- Witnessing commissioning tests;
- Performing anti-islanding tests; or
- Verifying the protective equipment settings
- Interconnection Agreement
Before parallel operation can begin, a Generator Interconnection and Operating Agreement will need to be completed and signed by the applicant and Wisconsin Public Service.
