Employment Opportunities

The anticipated construction period of Weston 4 is four years (2004-2008). Contract labor will be used for much of the work. Estimates are between 1,000 and 1,200 construction workers will be needed. These employees would be construction management staff, site superintendents, skilled craftsmen (electricians, boilermakers, pipe fitters, carpenters and general laborers), engineers, start-up personnel and other miscellaneous services.

After Weston 4 is completed, 41 permanent workers will be needed to operate the plant.

Project Labor Agreement

A project labor agreement was signed in November of 2003 between Wisconsin Public Service and local trade unions for the Weston 4 construction project. This assures the unions would not strike or cause a slow down during construction. This should ensure a reliable work force and bring the project in on time and at a reasonable cost.

About half the work being done to build Weston 4, will be done using local subcontractors and their local employers. All out-of-state workers would spend thousands of dollars each month on food, lodging, entertainment and more.

Approximately $20 million to $30 million will be spent on local services and materials during construction.
