When electric lines come in contact with trees, three problems can occur: power outages, fire hazards, and safety hazards. Trees cause about 30% of all electric service interruptions on Wisconsin Public Service's 17,000-mile distribution system. Public Service spends approximately $5.5 million each year for line clearance crews to trim or remove trees to prevent these interruptions.
On the average Public Service trims trees near power lines every three years in residential areas and every six years in rural areas. The line clearance work is done for Public Service by companies with specialized equipment and trained personnel.
Call us before you cut down any trees or tree limbs near electric lines. Touching a tree limb that is in contact with an electric line is extremely hazardous and life-threatening. We will assist you in whatever way we can to see that the job is done safely.
