Three-Tier Time-of-Use

If you can shift your energy use, you can save money.

Smart fact: Customers on the Three-Tier Time-of-Use rate have been saving $50 per year on average by shifting their electricity use.

Three-Tier Time-of-Use helps you save money when you can shift the greatest share of your electricity use to off-peak savings hours — times of the day and night when energy demand and rates are lower.

Those hours are in effect about half of the time, including all weekends and holidays, so even small changes result in savings. You can also save by making other easy changes, such as doing a load of laundry later at night or setting your air conditioner to a higher temperature while you're sleeping.

When you can't completely shift to off-peak hours*, using energy during mid-peak hours is the next best savings option.
